Essex has a wealth of archaeological sites and historic buildings. Among the most notable and prolific are the many eleventh century churches of flint and brick. While most have dressings of re-used Roman brick, there is increasing evidence that some of the brick is custom-made medieval material.
Many of the churches were in existence at the time of the Domesday Survey or shortly thereafter. This series attempts to recapture the buildings as they might have appeared at this time
